All meetings are held at the Manito Meeting Room, to the east of the Gaiser Conservatory, the second Thursday of the month, beginning at 7:30pm.

 

January NO MEETING

 

February DVD on new introductions, go over budget for the upcoming year.

 

March Soil Preparation.  Tips and information from high volume growers about what to do to improve your garden.  Planting tips for the novice and the experienced growers.  Pre-planting additions to the soil.  Planting demonstrations.

 

April Tuber and Gladiola auction.  Exclusive sale for members only. Public sale at Northwest Seed and Pet’s two locations.  North Division, last Saturday in April, East Sprague, first Saturday in May, and the Garden Expo at Spokane Community College, second Saturday in May.  Email for more information, info@inlandempiredahliasociety.com.  This is the time to purchase the color, sizes and types of dahlias you want to enhance your garden.  This meeting also includes auction items of some of the newest varieties.

 

May Presentations and demonstrations on topping, disbudding and staking plants to produce abundant and beautiful blooms for the show bench and for bouquets for your home and friends.  Planting of the VA Garden and Trial Garden, last weekend of the month.

 

June Fertilizing, pruning and grooming plants.  Pest control.  Tips on controlling garden pests with and without chemicals.  Recommended products to use.

 

July Demonstrations on staging and making baskets for the show.  Experienced growers will demonstrate the best methods to prepare blooms for shows.  

 

August Annual Society Picnic.  Prepare for Show Time.  Discussions on preparations for the Annual Show.  Learning more about dahlias by working with judging teams and clerking at the show. 

 

September NO MEETING, Dahlia Show at the Spokane Interstate Fair, show banquet Saturday the  11th.

 

October Information on digging, cutting and storing tubers.  Demonstrations on the proper methods of separating tubers and proper methods of marking and storing tubers for the winter.  Trial Garden and VA Garden tuber dig, dates to be decided at a later date.  Nominations for elections.

 

November Show reports and slide show of dahlia show and national show.  New officer elections!

 

December NO MEETING Christmas party, place, date and time will be decided on a later date.  His and her gifts and Christmas stealing game!! Fun !
